
Van Johnson was born in Newport, Rhode Island; the son of Loretta (Snyder), a homemaker, and Charles E. Johnson, a plumber and later real-estate salesman. His father was an immigrant from Sweden, and his mother had German-American Pennsylvania Dutch ethnicity. His parents divorced when Johnson was a toddler, and his father was given custody due to the mother's alcoholism.
His acting career began in earnest in 1936 in the Broadway.Johnson married Eve Lynn Abbott on January 25, 1947, the day her divorce from actor Keenan Wynn was finalized. He had daughter which was born in 1948 he loved her very much. Van Johnson survived skin cancer in 1963.

Charles Van Johnson was born August 25, 1916(1916-08-25). He died on December 12, 2008 of natural causes at the Tappan Zee Manor, an assisted living center in Nyack, New York.
